What is Kindermusik?

maestro logo

Kindermusik provides weekly classes of music and movement activities for parents and their children, newborn to age 7. It provides families with opportunities to interact more effectively, instills a deep appreciation for music, enriches all areas of development, and focuses on the process of "learning how to learn", preparing the brain and body for all future learning.

In a Kindermusik class, our educators will lead you and other parents, together with their children, through joyful activities, using music and movement. You will learn more about your child's unique developmental process. The shared learning experience creates a unique bond as your child will associate learning with fun, musical play.

For 25 years, Kindermusik International has been developing curricula based on new and proven research in child development. Award-winning books, beautifully-produced music, imaginative games, and authentic musical instruments, nurture skills using a holistic and developmentally appropriate approach, addressing the needs of the whole child.

The learning process continues at home, through the use of carefully planned resource materials designed to encourage family movement and dance activities to improve coordination and balance, one-on-one parent and child interaction to nurture self-esteem, and music-making and music listening activities to develop self-discipline, as well as critical and creative thinking skills.

Meet the Team

Kindermusik Licensed Educator logo

I am pleased to present our Studio Staff. I search diligently for teachers who not only have a love for children, but who have a natural ability to relate to both children and adults. All of my teachers are qualified, highly skilled and trained, and all have mentored with me in the classroom. Most of them have attended Kindermusik with their own children and have first-hand experience of what you and your child will encounter in a Kindermusik class. You will find our staff warm, open, approachable, and very sincere in their desire to meet your child's individual needs. It is my personal goal to provide you and your family a wonderful experience in the classroom, and this begins with quality teachers. I know you will be pleased when you read their profiles below. Little Music Makerz presents Kindermusik is a Maestro Studio.

Welcome and thank you for choosing Kindermusik, the single best choice of activity for your children!

Sherri Stuebing

Sherri Stuebing Director

Sherri has been involved with music all of her life, and has loved the opportunity to her passion for music onto her own children and the children that she teaches. With an early start to music at the age of 3, when her father taught her "Twinkle Twinkle" on the piano, she fell in love with music, and musical theatre and still continues to be active in the musical community, participating in the Annual Kitchener Rock Revival and other local arts events. Sherri has a B.A in English and a minor in Music Education, has taught piano and flute, and was assistant choral director for the Kitchener-Waterloo Sweet Adeline Ladies Barbershop Chorus from 2003 – 2008.

Her two talented children have attended Kindermusik since birth. Isabella continues to carry her love of music into her competitive dancing and musical theatre. As a mom and a teacher of Kindermusik, Sherri believes that this is the perfect program for young children to start their musical education in a fun and nurturing way. Anita Wright

Anita Wright Instructor

Anita holds a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University. Anita has been a Kindermusik teach since 2011 and enjoys seeing the parents interact with their kids and have fun while they learn! In addition to teaching Kindermusik, Anita teaches private piano and vocal lessons and teaches music at Listowel Christian School. Anita has also worked in a daycare and in a music store as the lesson coordinator.

One of Anita's first musical memories was at her 5th birthday party leading a musical marching band with her friends. Since that time she has been involved with many choirs including the local Age of Majority Singers and plays piano and sings at the church she attends. Kindermusik combines two of Anita's greatest passions: music education and working with young children.

Julia Vandenhelm

Julia Vandenhelm Instructor

Hi! My name is Julia Vandenhelm and I have been a voice teacher at the Cambridge Conservatory of Music for 2 years. I have taught students ranging in ages from 5 to 15 and love teaching students of all ages. I have been singing for most of my life and started taking private lessons at age 8. I have studied under a few different teachers and have performed at a variety of venues including weddings and funerals. I have recently graduated from the University of Waterloo, majoring in music.

I enjoy singing in many different styles and enjoy teaching my students how to be versatile. In addition to teaching technique, I also focus a great deal on sight singing and theory because those are important aspects of learning music. I hope to always inspire and encourage young singers to pursue their passions and have fun while doing it!

On a more recent note, I am also very eager to be a part of Kindermusik! It brings me such joy and I can see that when I teach it brings a smile to many little faces. I am so excited for how much I will learn and grown through this opportunity! I cannot wait to start teaching your child very soon!

Testimonials

  • I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the wonderful organization of your studio and the high quality of teachers that you have selected. My family started with you when Cari was in ‘Our Time’ and Emily was in ‘Imagine That!’. The girls have really enjoyed their Kindermusik experiences and both are sad to see it end, as are Doug and I.  Both girls have a love of music, and Cari’s biggest challenge now is deciding which instrument to pursue next!!(graduated from Young Child Yr 2)

    Erica Pond Clements, 2008
  • I like that Kindermusik is focused on the "whole" child and that the activities from class become part of the rest of the week.

    Ryan Wettlaufer, 2010
  • Gail and I both think that the quality of the program has been fantastic, well beyond what we had any right to expect. All the teachers even those filling in for a class have been incredible—always managing to engage the kids. I think the "Studio" is a cluster of Angels we have been fortunate enough to bump into on Shonagh’s journey through life.

    Graham Wright, 2005
  • Lily is generally a happy girl, but the way she lights up when she is at Kindermusik genuinely warms my heart. Thank you so much for running such an amazing program!!

    Melissa
  • Kindermusik teaches real music skills: oral, aural, and notated. Graduates can proceed from these group lessons into private music lessons with a solid foundation of these skills as well as elementary experience with daily practice routines, which are integrated casually yet effectively in the Kindermusik curriculum. Daily practice is ultimately one of the most important aspects of private music lessons where the majority of work must happen at home with the lesson acting as a “check-up”. In my experience, Kindermusik graduates have successfully accomplished conservatory standards in less time and with less effort than the majority of my other students.
